In the short time we were there, we were constantly having to deal with rats. It started off just with being woken up every night by hearing them digging in the walls of our kitchen where it connects to the neighbor’s house. The property manager put poison outside in the laundry area (where I saw one come out during the day by the water heater) and left it at that. The digging continued and we later found a hole beneath one of the kitchen cabinets where it tried to drag a snack bag from our… table into the hole. This time the manager put poison in the house, which still did not fix the problem and now the rats had access to the inside of the house. We filled that hole ourselves. When emptying the master bedroom’s closet, there was evidence of digging on both corners of the closet from the inside (it was trying to find a way back out), so we sealed that room to try to keep it in there. A few nights later, I was awoken by the sound of something falling out of my closet and hitting the floor, so I knew there was one in my closet now too. The next day I tried to empty out my closet, and when trying to knock one of my spare blankets down with a broom I noticed it was heavier than usual. As it began to fall, a large gray rat ran off it and scurried down my hanging clothes back to the corner of the closet. At this point, we were both sleeping on the couches in the living room because we did not feel safe in our own rooms. The manager then decided to finally get someone from pest control to take a look, and all they did was set traps in the rooms. We had had enough at this point (between not being able to sleep, not having access to our own rooms, and just feeling disgusted by the lack of the manager’s concern on this issue), so we decided to move out. They then had the audacity to charge us for “breaking our lease” even though we were within our rights to due to it being uninhabitable. The place is currently under new management, so hopefully they get an actual exterminator out there before someone else moves in and has to go through this as well. Read More
